About the Art of Kay Sweeney :
“My mother was a painter for over 60 years. She saw unexpected images everywhere, and celebrated the artist inside everyone. Whenever rainclouds heralded a storm, Mom would race outside with her chalk pastels to decorate the driveway. From shelter inside the garage, we watched as raindrops splattered her designs into gorgeous swirls of color.
“Throughout her decades of painting, her style and preferred subject matter shifted dramatically: from portraits, animals and landscapes to darker, more abstract pieces featuring elongated dancers and hidden humans shrouded in trees.
“Though she welcomed onlookers’ comments, she preferred not to explain her images. She was delighted to hear what folks specifically saw in the paintings.”
