Volunteer Opportunity

Are you organized and willing to crunch some numbers to provide a huge help to the Greenbelt Arts Center? We are recruiting a volunteer to serve as Treasurer, helping us with reviewing our expenses/income, recommending budgets, and preparing our (relatively simple) tax forms. We are happy to provide training, but team spirit and attention to detail are a must.
About the position
The Treasurer will work closely with the General Manager, and shall be responsible for:
- Maintaining the financial records of the Center
- Recording expenses in our logs (Quickbooks)*
- Recording income in our logs (Quickbooks)*
- Maintaining bank and investment accounts
- Reviewing expenses/income logs
- Paying the bills and depositing the income
- Writing checks, Autopay, checking the bank accounts)*
- Filing the organization’s tax forms by the appropriate deadlines.
- Preparing budgets and reports for BOD Review/Approval
- Providing data to the BOD for expenses and income (reports)*
- Authorizing purchases within budget
- Preparing taxes for our 1 employee and IRS filings*
- Updating Maryland Non-profit forms
- Maintaining the financial records of the Center
The GAC Board of Directors as a whole is responsible for:
- Approving and monitoring budgets
- Authorizing purchases outside of the approved budget
- Handling grants, submissions and reporting
- Administrative paperwork for the insurance, lease etc
*These responsibilities may be separated into a second volunteer bookkeeping position based on interest; this position would not be a part of the board.
