Greenbelt Art Center's 2007-2008 Season

Our season this year features six regular plays and musicals produced by the Arts Center, beginning August 3 with Oliver! and includes two comedy favorites, a rock musical, a comedic look back at Shakespeare, and a poignant 1930's-era drama about eight bridge-playing sisters. Click on "Plays" (to the left) for dates and more about each show.

We also have three special event offerings: two free plays during Greenbelt's Labor Day Festival and the Winter Youth Musical written and directed by Greenbelt's own Christopher Cherry. Two musical concerts are currently planned (click on "Concerts"), and the theater is used from time to time by other theater, music and dance companies.

The Greenbelt Art Center's stage is a "black box" theater, meaning that the seats may be re-arranged for each production, which allows maximum flexibility and creativity for the director. The "three-quarter thrust" is our most common arrangement, with audience surrounding the stage on three sides. A "proscenium" stage--the most common arrangement in theater, is possible here too, with the audience facing the stage which is framed like a picture with an arch and curtains. The Arts Center has used an "arena" arrangement with seats on all four sides and the stage in the center, a turning stage, and a cafe-style seating arrangement with patrons at tables while they watch the show.

We are a "Community Theater," known for high-quality shows that showcase the experience and talents of our performers and crews, who manage to fit their love of the performing arts into their busy lives. Come and see what we can do!

The theater holds an average of 85 audience-members depending on the seating style chosen for the show. All seating is General Admission, there are no assigned seats, and reservations and advance purchases are recommended to guarantee a seat. Come a little early and enjoy the rotating displays by local artists and photographers in our lobby gallery. Any reservations not picked up and paid for at least 15 minutes prior to showtime may be resold to waiting patrons. Coming soon: online advance ticket purchases!
